Back Together Again, Looking to the Future:
the Playlist!
On June 5, the Choral Society will welcome special guest collaborators, the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale, to present Back Together Again, Looking to the Future. This long-awaited concert, delayed by the pandemic, explores the musical traditions and cultural roots of our singers, and celebrates the ways in which those origins bring us together in community.
Artistic Director Tom Lloyd says, “When choosing the music for our part of this program, it occurred to me to ask the members of our choir in rehearsal to call out some of the traditions that they identified as part of their cultural roots. As a result, every selection on this program reflects the cultural identity of at least one of our singers. Of course, all of the singers in both choirs primary cultural identity is as American. But we are also all descendants of people who came here recently or long ago from other lands.”
The Choral Society is eagerly preparing music representative of the German, Italian, Irish, Jewish, and Korean traditions—to name a few!
As we explore the myriad traditions that come together to create our great American tapestry, we hope you will be reminded of your own musical roots, or perhaps you’ll hear something new that will expand your musical horizons.
Below is a playlist containing just some of the music you’ll hear on June 5. We hope you’ll listen, enjoy, and join us!
